A knitter never sleeps, but she dreams

I’m so bad when it comes to afterwork, like weaving in ends and making pompoms.  So I had six hats, all done but in need of finishing before I could send them off for the holiday.  After procrastinating much of last weekend, I ran out of time.  I had to mail them, or they’d never arrive on time!

The Patriots played Sunday.  What better time could there be?  I’m an avid fan, but I can’t bear to watch the game in progress.  Hey, I read the ending of books first, because I can’t stand suspense.  If you could tell me the outcome of a game, I could watch.  Since you can’t, I don’t.

What next?  I’ve been dreaming for a while.  Writers do that.  By the time I hit the last few chapters of a book, I know what’s going to happen, so my mind moves on to the next book.  I suppose this is also for self-protection.  I mean, I’ve been living with these characters for nearly a year, and letting them go would be painful if I didn’t have new ones to fill the void.

Same with knitting.  Long before the final cast-off, I’m thinking ahead.  First, colors.  I went through my stash, picking colors that appealed.  Two color families made the cut.

For now, I’m leaning toward the blues/greens, rather than the pinks/browns.  I’m also leaning toward a pattern for a Drawstring Cowl/Hat, found in 60 More Quick Knits.

The yarn in this picture is actually emerald in a cashmere blend made by my friend, Debbie Smith, at Iron Horse.  It’s monotonal enough for a lace pattern, yet has subtle variations for interest.  I like the dual use of this item, and like that it’s a small project, finishable in not-so-long a time.  BTW, I’m still waiting for the new Cookie A sock pattern.  She had a family emergency, so there was a delay.

That said, does a knitter sit and twiddle her thumbs?  No way.  Not with a long holiday weekend of knitting time ahead.
